چکیده

In this paper we contrast the performance of three different parallel dynamic load-balancing algorithms when used in conjunction with a particular parallel, adaptive, time-dependent, 3-d ow solver that has recently been developed at Leeds. An overview of this adaptive solver is given along with a description of a new dynamic load-balancing algorithm. The eeectiveness of this algorithm is then assessed when it is coupled with the solver to tackle a model 3-d ow problem in parallel. Two alternative parallel dynamic load-balancing algorithms are also described and tested on the same ow problem.

Dynamic Load Balancing for Parallel Mesh Adaptation

Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) flow simulations are extremely expensive in terms of CPU time and memory. In this study, parallel computing and grid adaptation techniques are employed to achieve high efficiency and accuracy in a hybrid unstructured flow solver. However, adaptive local grid refinement/coarsening causes the unequal distribution of workload among the processors at run time. A s...

Parallel Performance of Adaptive Algorithms with Dynamic Load Balancing

Parallelization of adaptive algorithms leads to problems with parallel efficiency. Adaptation is a method which introduces dynamic perturbations to computational environment. This in turn causes problems with proper load balance. To ensure proper efficiency of a parallel simulation it is necessary to perform load balancing whenever certain threshold of load balance is breached. In this paper au...

Parallel 3D Adaptive Compressible Navier-Stokes Solver in GeoFEM with Dynamic Load-Balancing by DRAMA Library

Grid adaptation is a very useful method for applications with unstructured meshes but requires dynamic load-balancing for efficient parallel computation. In this study, a parallel 3D compressible Navier-Stokes code with adaptive hybrid meshes (epHYBRID) and parallel adaptation procedure (pADAPT) have been developed on GeoFEM parallel platform. The DRAMA library has been integrated into the pADA...

Performance of dynamic load balancing algorithms for unstructured mesh calculations

If a finite element mesh has a sufficiently regular structure, it is easy to decide in advance how to distribute the mesh among the processors of a distributed-memory parallel processor, but if the mesh is unstructured, the problem becomes much more difficult. The distribution should be made so that each processor has approximately equal work to do, and such that communication overhead is minim...

Parleda: a Library for Parallel Processing in Computational Geometry Applications

ParLeda is a software library that provides the basic primitives needed for parallel implementation of computational geometry applications. It can also be used in implementing a parallel application that uses geometric data structures. The parallel model that we use is based on a new heterogeneous parallel model named HBSP, which is based on BSP and is introduced here. ParLeda uses two main lib...
